Barnsdall Art Park

Happy National Picnic Day! The sun is out in Los Angeles and it’s a perfect time of the year to have a picnic in a park. Here are five prime picnic spots in Los Angeles we recommend.

1. Echo Park Lake

This place is always bustling with people and it isn’t difficult to see why once you step inside. The park was recently renovated and it is filled with tall trees, lotus flower blooms, and a waterfront you can walk right up to with a gorgeous Downtown LA skyline looming in the distance. Spread out a blanket anywhere it’s grassy and soak in the view. Also, there are even pedal boats you can cruise the lake with when you finish lunch!

2. The Old Zoo at Griffith Park

One of the most unique places in Los Angeles for a picnic. The current Los Angeles Zoo opened in 1966 and the Old Zoo area has been abandoned since then. The cages & stone caves for the animals were left intact. The park is filled with BBQ grills, picnic tables, and a grassy area to lay down a blanket for a picnic.

3. Barnsdall Art Park

This is a hidden gem in the middle of the city! It has a gorgeous 360 view of Los Angeles when you make it to the top. There’s ample parking as well. Open up a blanket within the lines of trees surrounding the Art Gallery or on the grassy hillside overlooking the city. If you go to this park on the right nights during the fall there are outdoor movie nights!

4. Grand Park LA

This romantic urban oasis definitely gave Downtown Los Angeles a much needed upgrade when it opened in 2012. You’ll find grassy areas & pink tables spread around the park to enjoy your picnic on. It’s a nice escape in the middle of the bustling downtown area. It’s also a great spot for people watching.

5. Point Vicente Interpretive Center
This spot has a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean. Who doesn’t want to eat their lunch with the waves crashing right next to you? We know we do. There are a few picnic tables right next to the seaside cliff, as well as a limited grassy patch to spread out a blanket. Look closely you might spot some dolphin or whales.

Be sure to check out where the gourmet food trucks around the city are on the Bistro Planet app. Not everyone has the time to cook & pack a picnic on a gorgeous sunny day. When you order from our app the food is ready to pick-up within 5-15 minutes and you get to skip the line at the food truck when you arrive. Let us do the cooking for you so you can enjoy more of your beautiful day in the city.
